Chariot building, by Miss Hope

Date: 19th Oct 2016 @ 6:08pm

On Monday we were set a challenge to design and build a chariot for the knight to rescue the princess from the dragon. Our chariot had to have moving wheels and be able to move along the floor.

We set to work researching chariots and drawing our designs. Then we worked out our list of materials and equipment that we would need.

We learnt about chassis and axles for our wheels.

On Tuesday we started to build our chariots. We had to measure, cut, and fix it all together. We were really pleased with our finished results. Have  a look at the pictures.

Researching Landmarks, by Miss Hope

Date: 20th Sep 2016 @ 12:05am

This week in our literacy lessons we have been writing a story in the style of Steve Antony's book "The Queen's Handbag".  To do this we had to choose some landmarks from the United Kingdom to include in our stories. We used photographs and iPads to help us research in formation for our story. All the children worked really hard and found out facts about places like the London Eye, Big Ben, the Angel of the North and Hadrian's Wall.

We have had a great first week in Q2. We have been reading a book by Steve Antony called the Queen's Handbag. Through this super story we have learnt about the 4 countries of the United Kingdom, their capital cities and some of sthe great landmarks around Great Britain. We will be using this story again next week in our literacy work.

In our maths work we have been learning about place value in numbers up to 100.  The children are keen to show off their maths skills.

Well done children Miss Hope is really looking forward to sharing our learning adventure this year.

Date: 14th Jul 2016 @ 4:52pm

On E- safety day we discussed the good things we use the Internet for and then watched a short film about staying safe online. Miss Gray then asked us some questions that we had to answer true or false by using red and green cards. We then signed a pledge to always be kind when using the Internet.

What an exciting morning Q2 had last Thursday! Mrs Taylor arranged a Skype call with École Maternelle Langevin in Bouligny, France. Children in Q2 were able to perform some French songs for Madame Marchetti's class. We were also joined by Mr Platt, a French teacher from Cowley and some of his Year 8 pupils. Our Q2 children were fantastic representatives of our school and made Miss Hope and Mrs Taylor very proud. Thank you Mrs Taylor for arranging a super opportunity for the children.

Outdoor Maths, by Miss Hope

Date: 16th Jun 2016 @ 6:23am

Q2 have enjoyed an outdoor maths lesson this week. They were learning about capacity and volume. Miss Gray asked them to sort all her containers and bottles into 3 groups. Those that would hold a litre of water, those that would hold more than a litre of water and those that would hold less than a litre. The children worked in pairs with a measuring jug. They had to read the scale on the side of the jug accurately and fill the containers. Well done children - great measuring!

What a surprise!, by Miss Hope

When we arrived back in class after half term we were surprised to find a pirate ship had arrived in our classroom! How strange! Luckily we had all come dressed as pirates!  As we began reading this week's book The Pirates Next Door by Johnny Duddle, we discovered that in the sleepy village of Dull on Sea a pirate ship had arrived there too. We can't wait to read the rest of the story and find out what happens.

SEAL Champions, by Miss Hope

Date: 28th May 2016 @ 1:18pm

Each half term we focus on a different theme for our PSHE work. This term it has been Relationships. At the end of each half term the children vote for their classmates who they think display the values we have been working on. This term we were looking for the child who is always pleased when a friend achieves something new and for the one who says sorry when they know they are in the wrong. Q2 children voted and decided that James W was the person who won the sorry award and Isaac won the encourager award. Amazingly Miss Hope and Mrs Duffy had picked the same people in their secret vote too, which just goes to show how well we all know each other in Q2. Well done boys we are proud of you.

Robot Workshop, by Miss Hope

Date: 28th May 2016 @ 1:08pm

During the last two weeks Q2 have been busy designing, building, decorating and evaluating their moving robots. Miss Gray gave the children a design brief that they had to follow. Their robot had to be able to stand up on its own and needed to have a chassis with wheels on axles. We have really enjoyed our robot project. Although some parts of the design process were tricky and required patience and perseverence we all managed to complete our robots. We now have a fabulous collection of wheeled robots. Take a look at our pictures. Which is your favourite?

Clink the Robot, by Miss Hope

This week we had a visit from a very sad robot called Clink. He was so upset because he wasn't as exciting as some of the other robots in the shop. We wanted to help Clink so we decided to write a letter to persuade someone to buy him.

The Queen's Hat, by Miss Hope

Date: 17th May 2016 @ 7:52pm

In Q2 we have been reading The Queen's Hat by Steve Antony.

We have written recounts of the story, pretending we were the hat. We wrote some super stories with adverbs, time connectives, proper nouns and included details we had learnt on our special bus trip round London.

We have changed our book corner into London Town, complete with Big Ben, Tower Bridge and lots of soldiers. We've even got a huge hat soaring through the clouds.

We spent Friday doing lots of art work to transform our book corner.

We think it looks fantastic now.

A bus trip around London, by Miss Hope

Date: 9th May 2016 @ 9:54pm

Today, in our topic lesson, we climbed aboard a special London bus and enjoyed a sightseeing tour of our capital city.  We spotted lots of landmarks as our tour guide Miss Hope pointed out special features.

Then we started writing a guide book for people to use when they travel on our special bus. We had to use some reference sheets to help us research the different landmarks.
