World Religion Day, by Mr Warner

Date: 16th Jan 2017 @ 7:53pm

This afternoon the children explored world religions and how faiths around the world can vary greatly. The work ended with a focus on Islamic Art and also Rangolo patterns. This bought in lots of Maths work in considering symmetrical patterns and shapes. Pictures of our fabulous work will be up on our blog as soon as they have been completed.

The children have thoroughly enjoyed finding out about various faiths.

From here to Broadway, by Mr Warner

Date: 12th Jan 2017 @ 9:15pm

With the help of Liverpool Empire, the children have been learning a song throughout the week. It is so catchy that they've been singing it on the playground, in other lessons, in the dining hall and I even heard some children singing it as they walked down the road with their parents on the way home tonight.

Even those children who are reluctant to perform in front of the class have really enjoyed this and have come out of their shells during the last two weeks. It has been lovely to see the confidence that the children have gained from all the wonderful activities they have taken part in.

Dance. Cats The Musical, by Mr Warner

Date: 12th Jan 2017 @ 8:48pm

During the week e ahve worked with the Liverpool Empire Theatre. The children toook part in a most enjoyable dance session based around the musical Cats. It was a most engaging session and every child was thoroughly involved throughout. It was fast paced and within an hour they had put together a whole class dance sequence. During the final activity it was wonderful to see the expressions on childrens faces and their movements as they transformed into cats.

Ukulele Taster, by Mr Warner

Date: 12th Jan 2017 @ 8:38pm

One of the most popular activities amongst Q3 pupils has been the Ukulele session. The children thoroughly enjoyed this and made a huge effort to learn several songs that were new to them.

Shrek Themed Arts Fortnight, by Mr Warner

Date: 12th Jan 2017 @ 8:24pm

We focused on 'Shrek the Musical' and took part in lots of activities based around the story. We had several drama sessions linked to the story, created both group and individual artwork linked to the musical and even wrote our own song for the musical (with help from St Helens music services).

The results were fabulous and we would like to thank all the parents who came and viewed their children's art work in the exhibition.

Flying home for Christmas, by Mr Warner

Date: 20th Dec 2016 @ 12:55pm

During the last week we have been reading a Michael Morpurgo book, Coming Home. The children have done some excellent work. They have carried out a range of activities based on Robins, poetry, non fiction writing and comparing different interpretations of the story. They even changed the lyrics of Chris Rea's Driving Home for Christmas, linked to the Robin coming home and then performed the song.

I'm flying home for Christmas
Oh, I can't wait to see those feathers
I'm flying home for Christmas, yea
Well I'm moving down that river
And it's been so long
But I will be there
I tweet this song
To pass the time away
Soaring by a star
I'm flying home for Christmas

It's gonna take some time
But I'll get there
Beak to tail in snowflakes
Oh, I got raging seas on the run
But soon I’ll get some shelter yeah
Get my feet on leafy ground

So I tweet for you
Though you can't hear me
When I get through
And feel you near me
Soaring by a star
I'm flying home for Christmas

I'm flying home for Christmas
With a thousand memories

I take look at the fieldfare next to me

He's just the same
Just the same

Beak to tail in snowflakes
Oh, I got raging seas on the run
I'm flying home for Christmas, yea
Get my claws on leafy ground
So I tweet for you
Though you can't hear me
When I’m wet through.
Oh and feel you near me
Soaring by a star
Flying home for Christmas
Flying home for Christmas
With a thousand memories

I take look at the fieldfare next to me
He's just the same
He’s flying home, flying home
Flying home for Christmas

Christmas Party, by Mr Warner

Date: 20th Dec 2016 @ 12:28pm

On Friday Lower Key Stage Two had their Christmas party. We played lots of Christmas themed games and danced. The childrens behaviour was excellent throughout and it was lovely to see them having lots of fun after working so hard throughout the term.

Well done and a massive thank you to all of the fabulous Lower Key Stage Two team, especially Miss Kean who is a brilliant party planner.

Google Expeditions, by Mr Warner

Date: 20th Dec 2016 @ 12:10pm

Today we have been learning all about Volcanoes and were able to go inside a virtual reality world using Google Expeditions. Alex bought us enough headsets for one each. The children were able to consolidate their learning about Volcanoes and it was a fitting end to the topic. We were also able to visit volcanoes in places as far away as Borneo. We had enough time during the session to go to space, explore underwater and view sharks. We were even able to take a trip to Lapland and go inside Santa's home and his workshop.

The volcano view made me quite scared.

Google Expeditions, by Miss Ellis

Date: 20th Dec 2016 @ 10:34am

We have just come back to class from experiencing the amazing world of Google Expeditions! In the last half hour, we have visited the National History Museum, The Great Barrier Reef, The Solar System, and The Grand Canyon. We've also swam with sharks, petted a dinosaur and rode on Santa's sleigh...all without leaving the school hall๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿปโญ๏ธ

Stone Age inspire day, by Mr Warner

Date: 6th Dec 2016 @ 10:09pm

What a fantastic day was had by all during our Year 3 inspire day. The learning that took place today involved Maths in naming and understanding of 3D shapes during the planning stages of den design, lots of Design Technology work with structures, the History element in the children becoming emersed in Stone Age ways of life. Teamwork and cooperation was required throughout the day. The children even sampled a selection of Stone Age food when inside their dens. Their structures were tested with water thrown over them, with all proving to be both sturdy and waterproof.

Thanks to parents for the fabulous turnout and support. Also for getting involved in helping cover the dens and joining in with the fun.

It was a wonderful way to finish off our Stone Age topic. Thanks to Chris for running the day and to all staff involved in making this day possible for the children.

Pirate Writing Crew, by Mr Warner

Date: 10th Nov 2016 @ 10:04pm

Miss Gauld has been working hard with two groups of four children, leading a themed writing intervention called Pirate Writing. There are encouraging signs of good progress being made already after two weeks.

The room looks amazing and the groups are really motivated throughout each task.

Thank you Miss Gauld for all your wonderful work with these children.

Column addition , by Mr Warner

Date: 10th Nov 2016 @ 9:54pm

We have worked very hard all week and used a range of concrete resources to learn about column addition. The children have used rounding, estimating and lots of mental strategies, leading to the more formal methods of column addition and subtraction.

Class Worship, by Mr Warner

Date: 10th Nov 2016 @ 9:50pm

Grace and Anthony led our class worship this week. They read confidently, clearly and fluently, combining singing, with great use of technology. So well organised and lovely to see the other children really appreciating their efforts.

Well done.

P.E. (Handball), by Mr Warner

Date: 10th Nov 2016 @ 9:37pm

A great session with Mr Ward in preparation for tournaments coming up in the next few weeks.

Children were taught a range of passes and quickly picked up the rules of handball. The games were extremely competative throughout the lesson.

Black History, by Mr Warner

Date: 3rd Nov 2016 @ 9:46pm

Throughout the week Q3 have been learning all about the importance of equality. Debates have taken place and work based on discrimination, where the girls were given preferential treatment compared to the boys for a short time (this caused outrage amongst the boys, but was essentail to demonstrate inequality). We have looked at segregation, the slave trade and how we need to remember the history of black Americans.

In Guided Reading the class have celebrated the songs and looked closely at the lyrics of several black artists. Music has ranged from The Black Eyed Peas to John Newton (lyricist of Amazing Grace) who we found out was originally a slave trader.

It has been a most enjoyable week, ending with team tasks to research about significant black people from history.

Class worship, by Mr Warner

Date: 3rd Nov 2016 @ 9:26pm

What a wonderful way to start our day on Wednesday. Michael and Liberty led our class worship. They used the bible story Noah's Arc to demonstrate the Year 3 value of respect. They confidently read the story and used the whiteboard to share a song linked to the story. The rest of the class listened carefully and also demonstrated great respect. Two more children will lead class worship next week.

busy week, by Mr Warner

Date: 7th Oct 2016 @ 11:13am

What a great week we have had in Q3. The children have really got involved in exploring the Stone Age, looking at theor homes and started to look at their way of life. A very popular area within the classroom is our reading cave. Some children have tried it out and given it the thumbs up (thanks Miss Gauld). It's a fabulous area to relax and lose yourself in a book.

Our Guided Reading sessions have focused on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, with lots of work on the vocabulary used within the text. Each day the children explore the use of particular words in context. Lots of very interesting discussion has been generated from these parts of the Guided Reading.

We have written stories about being sent back in time to the Stone Age and lots of thought has gone into the writing process throughouot the week.

After several lessons exploring volcanoes, Megan bought in a model of one that she made at home. It is now proudlydisplayed within the classroom.

Within part of our Maths Meetings times tables were introduced this week and we focused on the three times table. The children were shown a website called Hit The Button and each tried to beat each others time.

Modern Foreign Languages Day, by Mr Warner

Date: 30th Sep 2016 @ 1:36pm

This week has been an extremely busy one.

Two of the children (Shei and Olivia) were interviewed about their experiences -

What have you been learning about this week?

O - We've been learning about a new book called "The Stone Age Boy" and it's also a kind of history book too.

S- We've been filming a scene from part of the book too. I was the boy.

O- We've been looking at three digit numbers this week. We had European Day of Languages as well and German dance. We found out all about Germany.

What has been your favourite part of the week?

O- Most probably McMillan coffee morning and the filming. It's like filming the trailer for a movie at the cinema.

S - Definately doing the filming for Stone Age Boy.

O- It's kind of like English and Topic all in one, it's great!

O- Ooh and I love it when Mrs Roberts did Science as well. We squirted rocks.

Is there anything else you want to tell your parents about the week?

S- This week has been fine and I hope next week is even better.

O- Every Friday after assembly we go out and play rugby with Mr Ward. We have to try our best.

S- I will try really hard next week.

Stone Age TV Advert, by Mr Warner

Date: 22nd Sep 2016 @ 5:34pm

We have launched our History topic based on the Stone Age today. The children have worked hard to produce TV adverts in an effort to try and sell Stone Age bow and arrows. They planned the adverts in small groups, then had a go at filming on iPads. They showed great enthusiasm and everyone played their part to bring the adverts together.

Maths Meetings, by Mr Warner

Date: 18th Sep 2016 @ 1:45pm

The children are really enjoying Maths Meeting time which involves lots of quick mental calcualtions as well as trying to solve puzzles. Something which proved to be particularly popular last week was the chance to sit in the hot seat and take questions about the mystery number.

100th Birthday celebrations, by Mr Warner

Date: 14th Sep 2016 @ 9:51pm

In an effort to promote our love of reading Q3 took part in a live web event on Tuesday to celebrate the 100th birthday of Roald Dahl. The children explored all sorts of facts about him and his life befire taking part in a quiz, which asked questions about various characters in his books.

We later joined the live event, which included a reading by David Walliamsand a live performance of part of the Matilda musical.

We ended the day with some quiet time, reading a selection of Roald Dahl books.

First week , by Mr Warner

Date: 9th Sep 2016 @ 2:46pm

It has been a very busy week for the children's first experience of Year 3. They have settled really well and are adapting to life in Key Stage 2. The children have worked extremely hard and have begun to explore a new text about exchanging a dad for a goldfish, with some interesting predictions. They have been impressing me all week with their Maths Mastery transitions. Mrs Potter has obviously worked really hard on this area of the lesson.

I'm looking forward to getting our topic work started, looking at Volcanoes and the Stone Age. Many children have already shown an impressive knowledge as part ofa  brainstorming session.
