Ben Johnson Cityscape and Shrek Batik, by Mr Warner

Date: 12th Jan 2017 @ 9:06pm

Our art topic this half term has been all about Merseyside and we have linked the work of Ben Johnson, who created a Cityscape made up of famous Liverpool buildings. The children explored the work and the artist. They then went on to research iconic St Helens buildings and attempted a St Helens Cityscape with their drawings. this was displayed as a part of our art exhibition.

The children also created a class piece using the Batik method, using hot was to make marks on fabric. They then painted the fabric with special paints. This work is now proudly displayed in our classroom.

Stone Age inspire day, by Mr Warner

Date: 6th Dec 2016 @ 10:09pm

What a fantastic day was had by all during our Year 3 inspire day. The learning that took place today involved Maths in naming and understanding of 3D shapes during the planning stages of den design, lots of Design Technology work with structures, the History element in the children becoming emersed in Stone Age ways of life. Teamwork and cooperation was required throughout the day. The children even sampled a selection of Stone Age food when inside their dens. Their structures were tested with water thrown over them, with all proving to be both sturdy and waterproof.

Thanks to parents for the fabulous turnout and support. Also for getting involved in helping cover the dens and joining in with the fun.

It was a wonderful way to finish off our Stone Age topic. Thanks to Chris for running the day and to all staff involved in making this day possible for the children.

The Savage Stone Age, by Miss Kean

Date: 7th Oct 2016 @ 12:28pm

This week’s blog is by Joshua:

This week we have been doing lots of work on our topic of The Stone Age, we have been learning about the different names given to the people who lived in the Stone Age during different times. We also learned about what kind of tolls they used to kill animals they were all made out of stone and parts of trees.  We made little models of the Stone Age houses I thought it was fantastic, the best part was learning that they used poo to make the roof.

European Day of Languages, by Miss Kean

Date: 29th Sep 2016 @ 6:48pm

This week’s blog is written by Dylan:

This week was very exciting because we celebrated European Day of Languages. Our focus country was Germany but in assembly Mrs Taylor taught us about loads of different places.

After assembly we came back to class and used iPads to research Germany and it was fun. We listened to a story called Hansel and Gretel and learned about the Brothers Grimm because they came from Germany. After that we made traditional German hats that they wear with Lederhosen, learned German with Mrs Taylor and did a German dance with Miss Emma. The German dance was fun, my partner was Yasemin, we slapped our knees a lot.

Challenge Accepted! , by Miss Kean

Date: 23rd Sep 2016 @ 1:43pm

This week’s blog is written by Ella:

This week my class have been learning about diaries, we have been writing a diary for the character of the Goldfish from the book “The day I swapped my Dad for Two Goldfish.” We have thought about how we would feel if we were suddenly taken from our home and moved somewhere new, just like the fish was when he was taken from the pet shop. My favourite part was when we drew pictures to show how the goldfish felt.

In topic we have been learning all about the Stone Age, we learnt that they killed animals using stone tools and then ate them. I loved making a TV advert with my friends for a bow and arrow.

As a class we have started to think about the school ‘planting challenge’ we are going to decorate our own planter in the school playground and try to win a prize for the best one. I can’t wait to watch the flowers grow. It will be my job to water them.

Roald Dahl's birthday bash! , by Miss Kean

Date: 16th Sep 2016 @ 1:34pm

This week’s blog is written by Isaac Heyes:

This week we have been reading “The day I swapped my dad for two goldfish.” It was funny at the end.  We watch the Matilda Musical on Tuesday to celebrate Roald Dahl’s 100th Birthday I thought it was quite fun to watch.  We also had French with Mrs Taylor doing greeting songs and met her new puppet Jacque. Some children did dough disco club with Miss Kean, we made play dough and put colour and glitter in it, it got a bit messy.

Today was our end of year school trip to Knowsley Safari Park!

First, we got involved with a workshop where we learnt about a variety of animals who live in Africa and we even got to see some and feel some of them, including: the giant African snail, a hissing cockroach and the ball python. After that, we went to see the giraffes, elephants and meerkats before seeing the spectacular sea lion show! Roger and Arthur showed off their fantastic skills for everyone and we even learnt how to tell the difference between a sea lion and a seal.
Afterwards, we jumped onto the coach to drive around the rest of the safari park where we saw a variety of animals including lions, monkeys, camels and zebras before finally stopping off at the bat cave where a couple of children got covered in a certain orange bat substance!

The weather was extremely hot but the children throughly enjoyed the trip and represented our school excellently!

Bumfresh!, by Miss McCormack

Date: 26th May 2016 @ 2:17pm

As you know, we have been reading Billionaire Boy over the last half term.
We received a text from Mr Len Spud, asking if we could help him to create a jingle, logo and slogan for his beloved company!

First, we had researched some famous slogans, logos and jingles we had a go at creating our own. Once we had created them we performed our jingles to some very harsh judges!

It was tough but we managed to select some winners! Well done to Ruby, Lucy, Morgan, Gillian, Charlie and Jacob!

Gillmoss Recycling Centre Trip, by Miss McCormack

Date: 20th May 2016 @ 7:27pm

Today we had a very exciting morning at Gillmoss Recycling Centre.
We discovered lots of facts about rubbish and recycling such as, in a year each family throws away rubbish which is equivalent to the weight of three polar bears!
We also got to see the machines which are used after our recycling has been collected. Unfortunately, there was an engineering problem with the machines today so we were unable to see them working, however, Kirsty was fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our visit.

I'm so proud of how we represented our school today and how fantastic and well behaved every member of our class was throughout the whole visit.
Finally, I'd just like to say a huge thank you to the following people for making the trip possible:
Mr Ward for organising this trip and for driving the minibus, Mr Curan for driving the minibus and staying with us during the visit, the parent helpers who dedicated their time to come with us this morning and last but not least a massive thank you to Kirsty for being a wonderful host and teaching our children lots of new things which they can hopefully take home and help our planet!

Bear Necessities

Rock Star

I Got Rhythm

Siyahamba

There are sounding amazing so far! We can't wait to show off what we can do in the show with all other schools :) Information to follow. Big thanks to the Music Service for teaching the children the songs.

Gillmoss Recycling Centre, by Miss Hughes

Date: 20th May 2016 @ 3:45pm

We had a super day at Gillmoss Recycling Centre today! We learnt lots about recycling and how the centre works. Did you know that every year, one household produces the equivalent of 3 polar bears worth of rubbish? (In weight) ... AND most of that can be recycled. We are going home to tell our families about how we can be more green and eco friendly.

Thank you to Kirsty at Gillmoss who was a super teacher, taught us loads and made us laugh lots!

Beebots and Maths, by Miss McCormack

Date: 16th May 2016 @ 4:00pm

Over the past few weeks we have been learning all about angles in year 3 and today we put our knowledge to the test...

In pairs, we wrote a set of instructions explaining how to navigate the Beebot around a course on the iPads. Our instructions worked really well as we all managed to reach the finish point!
