As the Queen's official birthday celebrations took place today, we have been focusing on all things royal this week!

In literacy, we have been reading The Queen’s Hat and The Queen’s Handbag! Can you believe a sneaky swan stole her handbag and took it to different landmarks around the UK?
In geography, we have been looking at and researching a variety of landmarks around the UK and in music we have been learning the British national anthem!

Today, we have had a fun filled morning of Queen Elizabeth || inspired activities including: creating a mosaic, a treasure hunt, creating crowns plus lots more!

We took lots of photos and videos so keep your eyes peeled for them coming up!

Stone Age Day!, by Miss McCormack

Date: 23rd Mar 2016 @ 6:40pm

Today, the whole of year 3 had a Stone Age day, which was led by Chris.
The first thing we had to do was create a group name and flag. After that, we made 3D models of key shapes which would help us to build our dens.
Next, we got to go out onto the school field and build our dens! We used bamboo sticks and zip tis to create the shape of our structures. After lunch, we put material onto our structures to try and make them waterproof (with the help of our parents). We then had some Stone Age snacks inside our dens before testing to see if they were waterproof...

Some of us managed to make our dens waterproof, however, some of us got a little bit wet!

I would like to say a huge thank you to Chris and the parents who joined us this afternoon. I would also like to mention how well behaved everyone in P3 was, your teamwork and perseverance was excellent!

This morning when we arrived back from assembly something strange had happened to our classroom!

Library visit!, by Miss McCormack

Date: 26th Feb 2016 @ 7:57am

Yesterday, we had the opportunity to visit the library to listen to a fantastic storyteller, who shared extracts from 'The Last Try' by Tom Palmer.

He reenacted the story of Jack Harrison, a young man who played for Hull FC and was awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions during the First World War.
The children were mesmerized by the storyteller's performance and were very keen to borrow the book from the library.

I would also like to thank the parent helpers who came with us on our trip and made it possible for both year 3 classes to be able to enjoy this experience.

Library visit!, by Miss McCormack

Date: 8th Feb 2016 @ 9:32pm

Today we took a little visit in the pouring rain to Peter Street library. We had the opportunity to speak to a librarian and even have a look around at some of the books they have for people to borrow. We also learnt where the picture books, fiction and non-fiction books can be found.

We would just like to say thank you to our parent helpers, without you we wouldn't have been able to go on our trip.

Although we ended up soaking wet, we had a great time and are really looking forward to going back again soon to borrow some books!

Chocolate bar, by Miss McCormack

Date: 26th Jan 2016 @ 7:45pm

To improve and expand our vocabulary, today in literacy the children got engaged with an activity called 'chocolate bar'. This activity involves each child having a piece of paper, split into 8 parts, just like a chocolate bar!

The next part is to fill each square with one amazing piece of vocabulary. Today, we carried out the activity based around describing Ug from our lead literacy text.

Everyone learnt a new piece of vocabulary today, I'm hoping to see all this fantastic vocabulary in our writing!

Scratch, by Miss McCormack

Date: 26th Jan 2016 @ 7:42pm

Stone Age, by Miss McCormack

Date: 25th Jan 2016 @ 4:55pm

Today we started our new topic on the Stone Age. We have been reading Ug in literacy so we already knew a few facts.

We focused today on how people from the Stone Age communicated with one another. They did not have an alphabet so had to communicate through cave drawings. Did you know that they usually lay down when doing their cave drawings? So that's what we did today!

Science, by Miss McCormack

Date: 20th Jan 2016 @ 7:33pm

This week we started our new science topic all about plants!

We started our topic by looking at the different types of roots which plants can have. After we had learnt about them, we pulled the roots from a real plant to see what they looked, felt and smelt like!

We got a little mucky but we discovered new things and asked lots of questions!

Can you remember the two types of roots we looked at?
