European Day of Languages , by Mr Gill

Date: 27th Sep 2016 @ 9:38pm

Guten Abend.

What a brilliant day we have had today!

It all started with an assembly to give us a brief introduction of what the day was all about. Some of the children and staff got up at the front and had a good at saying a tongue twister in German. This was really funny and everybody who had a go did brilliantly - especially Mr Warner!!!

In the morning we had a go at speaking some German with our talk partner. We enjoyed listening to our classmates having a go at pronouncing some really difficult words. We have learned to say how old we are and would be happy to share this with you should you ask!

We can also count to 10 in German. Our favourite number was funf - pronounced foonf (which is 5).

This afternoon we were really lucky to have a go at some German dancing. We learned how to waltz - it is much more difficult than it looks. Those celebrities on Strictly do a great job of learning it so quickly!

Mrs Taylor ended the day in an enthraling way by teaching us some German phrases that we can use around school, if we have German visitors and also at home.

Thank you to Mrs Taylor, the staff and all children at Queen's Park for such a fantastic day learning all about Germany.

Take a look at some our pictures to see how much we have learned!

Auf Weidersehen!

Time flies when you're working hard! , by Mr Gill

Date: 23rd Sep 2016 @ 2:45pm

I can't believe that we are already three weeks in to our new school year! Time flies when you're working hard.

This week has been the best yet. In maths, we have been putting our addition and subtraction skills to the test using the formal column method. The children really have impressed me with this and have got some more questions to complete for their homework. Why not work with them over the weekend so that they can impress you to!

Our English lessons have been a particular highlight for me. We have been writing a letter from the perspective of Duncan to those cheeky crayons! The work the children have produced has been AMAZING! I will post some examples of the great work on Monday.

In our science lesson we have been classifying animals in preparation for our bug hunt in the forthcoming weeks. The children are really excited about this!

We have finished the week in a great way today by playing our clarinets in our music lesson.

Well done to Lucy who won our star badge award this week for a fabulous piece of writing!

The Day the Crayons Quit , by Mr Gill

Date: 17th Sep 2016 @ 4:27pm

Our reading focus for this half term is the brilliant book 'The Day the Crayons Quit' which is written by Drew Daywalt and illustrated by Oliver Jeffers. The children are loving the book so far and have produced some great writing based around some of the characters from the book this week. I am hoping for many more good pieces of writing to come from it. I can't wait for the children to read about the 'Peach Crayon'... They are in for a real treat!

There have been some strange things going on around our classroom this week. We have been recieving letters from a rogue pack of crayons who are disgruntled to say the least. Take a look at what they have been saying. Monday morning should be an interesting one.

Happy reading!

It's all happening in P4, by Mr Gill

Date: 9th Sep 2016 @ 3:41pm

What a week it has been in P4. It has been very busy indeed. The children have settled really well and looking forward to meeting the challenge of Year 4 head on! During this week, the children have been showing off their maths skills and have really impressed me with their knowledge of place value of 4 digit numbers.

Thursday was a great day. In the morning the children were introduced to their new text ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’. If you ask them about it you can tell that they are so excited to start reading it on Monday. Thursday also saw us take part in our first PE lesson of the year with Mr. Ward. He was showing us how to pass the ball correctly when we play Rugby League – James Roby eat your heart out!

This afternoon, the children had their first music lesson of the year. They are going to be learning how to play the clarinet. I am looking forward to their end of year performance already!

Congratulations to our Star Badge winner Jake and a big Well Done also to Lucy and Troy who earned the most Dojos this week.

What a brilliant start to the year!

We all had a wonderful day at Knowslry Safari Park today and the children learnt lots, both within the workshop sessions linked to various areas of our Science curriculum and during our guided tour of the park. Rio Olympics- A Sporting Chance, by Mrs Taylor

Date: 22nd Jun 2016 @ 5:36pm

Following our sports week we looked at issues such as whether Rio was a good choice as host city and whether competitors from all nations stand an equal sporting chance when it comes to winning medals. Do all countries have the same training facilities for their sportsmen? We discussed inequality between countries as well as within countries. We finished the session with a debate about these issues.

Surprise connection with France , by Mrs Taylor

Date: 14th Jun 2016 @ 12:16pm

I was having a chat via google hangout with the teacher from our partner school in Bouligny when P4 returned from playtime. I invited the children to join the conversation and they did our school proud with their spoken French and singing. I could tell that Madame Marchetti was very impressed.

Recycle, by Mr Warner

Date: 10th Jun 2016 @ 10:27am

Year 4 visited the Gillmoss recycle centre today and found out lots of information about recycling and waste management.

The children were shown the amazing machines which sort and recycle waste from a large area of Merseyside. They were fascinated by all the equipment and asked Kirsty (Waste Awareness Manager) very intelligent and sensible questions.

When asked, Emily said this visited rated in her top 5 of school trips.  This summed up the feeling of all the children; who behaved impeccably throughout.

Thank you  Gillmoss Recycling Centre for a fascinating day and insight into our waste.

Busy day , by Mr Warner

The class listened carefully and asked some fabulous questions throughout the session. It is hoped that they take on board all the vital information from this excellent, thought provoking session.

Sound, by Mr Warner

Date: 9th Jun 2016 @ 1:40pm

We have been carrying out experiments to try and understand how far sound travels. Groups used the corridor to measure out various distances of the floor. We then used an app to measure sounds from each distance. Our results were carefully recorded in our books.

Robot Invasion!!!!!!, by Mr Warner

Date: 7th Jun 2016 @ 11:33am

A huge thank you to all the parents and carers for all your hard work and creative ideas in supporting your children in making these amazing robots. The variety and originality is fantastic. I hope you have had a lot of fun supporting your children and we will be using them for several activities as well as displaying these wonderful creations.

Robot Hand, by Mr Warner

Date: 24th May 2016 @ 10:38pm

Today some very strange things happened within the classroom. A robot hand appeared in the room whilst we were out during morning break. It was surrounded by police tape and a crime scene warning sign. This has caused much excitement amongst the children. It later moved onto the canopy in our reading area. Many questions have been left unanswered. Where did it come from? Who does it belong to? Why was it in our classroom.

The police are working around the clock in their investigation.

If anyone spots the hand, or indeed the rest of the robot can you please contact a menber of the Year 4 staff.

Flotsam, by Mr Warner

Date: 19th May 2016 @ 11:27pm

We had a great time with the launch of a fabulous book called Flotsam. Children were asked to sift through the sand to find clues. Lots of items gave them an indication as to what the story may be about. Some even found messages in bottles. Some fabulous writing was produced in the following days.

Queen's Birthday Inspire Day, by Mr Warner

Date: 14th May 2016 @ 5:34pm

Firstly,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the parents from P4 who turned up in force to see your children taking part in a range of activities. The children were mixe with the other Year 4 class and Year 3 classes and placed into groups named after the Royal houses and palaces. Activities ranged from art based tasks, such as a big art piece, decorating a mosaic of the Queen's head on a large stamp, to making a moving image of the Queen and adding a voiceover ton perform a Queen's speech. The parents came to see the final few activities in the carousel. Then stayed to see the feedback from the children. It was lovely to see so many parents and we are very grateful for your continued support.

Thanks again

A special delivery from France , by Mrs Taylor

Date: 27th Apr 2016 @ 7:58pm

Today we received an exciting parcel from our partner school in Bouligny which is in the Lorraine region of France. Because our school has joined them in a project on Splashes of Colour in Nature they have sent us some of their local food so that we may have colour on our plates. What a thoughtful idea! We have a jar of Mirabelle plums and some Foie gras.

Buon appetito!, by Mrs Taylor

Date: 19th Apr 2016 @ 5:18pm

P4 wore their aprons and hats today to prepare a delicious Italian pasta salad during a Masterchef session. Not only did the children chop and season independently but they also learned facts about Italy and some Italian language. We particularly enjoyed learning the different names for types of pasta. The session reinforced our topic this work this year on Italy.

Date: 14th Jan 2016 @ 12:12pm

The children have had a brilliant week with Rock Kidz. They have been taught 4 songs and will be performing them during a concert on Friday. We are recording the songs and producing a CD of this. Rock Kidz involves lots of activities, challenges and question time.

Lots of fun has been had by all. We cannot decide who does the best Air Guitar. But Mrs Heavey fancies herself as a Rock Chick!!!!

Sculpture, by Mr Warner

Date: 14th Jan 2016 @ 12:04pm

As a part of our Artwork P4 have researched Indian Gods and Goddesses. From this work the children designed their own Gods and Goddesses. We are now waiting for the clay to dry out before painting. The children had a great time moulding clay and using the various tools, with some very pleasing results.

Taste of India, by Mr Warner

Date: 14th Jan 2016 @ 11:36am

Today the childen had the experience of sampling a range of food from India. This proved a very popular activity and some of their expressions were brilliant.

"At first I didn't like the Mango Chutney. But the more of it I had the better it tasted."

"I liked all the different foods that were given to me."

"I enjoyed the Nan bread when I mixed it with rice".

"I absolutely loved it."

"At first I didn't think I would like the rice, but I loved it."

"I absolutely adored the little triangle shaped food."

"The only thing I didn't like was the Mango Chutney."

A great experience was had by all.

Thomas, by Mr Warner

Date: 9th Dec 2015 @ 2:04pm

During the Christmas Fayre Thomas in our class very did a very special thing for a great charity. He decided to have his hair cut for a wonderful charity. He was rasing money for Willowbrook Hospice. So far he raised over £200.

When he walked into class on Monday not many pupils recognised him.

Well done Thomas, we are very proud of you.

Cristingle, by Mr Warner

The children have been learning all about Jesus, the light of the world in their R.E. lessons. This week we made our own Cristingles and researched about the symbolism of each part we added. It was a lovely way to draw the topic to an end.

Week with an Elf, by Mr Warner

Date: 9th Dec 2015 @ 1:32pm

What a week we had in P4! It all began with the children receiving anonymous letters over the weekend telling them about the importance of being on the nice list for Santa and avoiding the naughty list. This caused great excitement when the children returned to school and we had some fabulous discussions about who the letter may be from.

As the week progresses the children began to find little clues around the classroom and school. From elf dust sprinkled on desks to another floow up letter. We even watched a video that the elf had taken of the children in a lesson, maybe he was checking to see if everyone was deserving to remain on the nice list.

Some children spotted an elf sat outside the dinner hall one day. We even found elf selfies on our chairs one day. This has generated some fabulous writing from the children and we hope to have a celebration on Friday to share what we have been doing with other classes.

Here's what a few of the children in P4 have said about the two weeks.

" I liked trying to find the elf around school in different places and hiding spots the most".

"What I liked about the elf on the shelf was when I walked into the classroom in the morning. We always have something new like a letter or a picture".

"I walked into the classroom after break. There was red sparkly glitter in front of my seat. I also liked looking at the elfie selfies".
