RSPB

Date: 19th May 2017 @ 11:43am

Today Steph came from the RSPB, she explained that the RSPB is a charity and they have over 100 spaces for nature.

She said the children might have seen the campaign, "Giving nature a home."

The children then watched a video and the children were given the opportunity to explain what they liked and why.

Steph then sorted creatures into vertebrates and invertebrates. Plants and trees were also included in the discussion.

The children  then thought about what habitats may exist around school.

Vital for all things to survive: water, food and shelter. This is their habitat.

Science outside:

Step explained what a food web is.

Outside, the children worked together to label the school grounds with different habitats. We investigated the quad, the EYFS outdoor area, the playground and the field.

Once we got back to class, the children discussed what they would have liked to see and how they could create a habitat to facilitate the creatures they would have liked to see. Some groups would have liked to see hedgehogs and they were trying to think of a good place to create a hedgehog house.

Steph left us lots of 'how to guides' to help create a new habitat to encourage different creatures to our school grounds.
