What a busy week , by Mrs Kellett

Date: 18th Jun 2015 @ 10:48pm

What a busy week we have had!

It started with Y6 Leavers' Service at Liverpool Anglican Cathedral.  We were joined by Rev Gary from U.R.C.  We had lunch in the sun in St John's Garden and then enjoyed the service were our Y6 thought about the next step in their journey through education.  The children behaved really well and did our school proud.

Sports Days

We had two very successful events this week.  It was a pleasure to see the children enjoying the activities. Thanks to all the staff for organising and it was lovely to see so many parents supporting our children.

New Starter Meeting

Tonight, we had our annual meeting for our new starters in Reception.  We were joined by different services and members of the school community to help answer questions.

Phew!! Is it Friday yet?

iPads , by Mrs Kellett

Date: 4th Jun 2015 @ 9:36pm

I had the pleasure this morning of dropping in to some lessons to see what great work was going on in the classrooms. I saw lots of great maths work and some good discussions about improving our writing. I went into y5 and they had our new bank of iPads out. They were learning to write algorithms (commands) to move figures in a game. I was so impressed with the children's ability and the confidence with using the new technology to further their learning.

Well done Mrs Atherton and Y5

Miss Hope shared some great news today!  All Y2 have been working extremely hard on their 'special work' this week but one little boy - Matthew W - did not drop one mark!  That has never been known in the history of Queen's Park!  Very well done Matthew.   Super reading yes

Playtime, by Mrs Kellett

Date: 19th May 2015 @ 10:08pm

I went out today and spent some time on the playground with our KS2 children. I visited the tuck shop and bought a tasty Mango Whirl. Don't forget the healthy tuck shop is open daily.

I had a lovely conversation with Scott from Y3 about how much he was enjoying being in y3.   I also asked the children what other equipment they would like on the playground.  Watch this space for continued playground improvements.

Proud Headteacher , by Mrs Kellett

Date: 18th May 2015 @ 10:52pm

Luckily, I have had lots of opportunities to feel proud of the children in our school and today I was overwhelmed with pride of the achievements of two of our children.

Joe in Y6 travelled to Skegness over the weekend to play in a Rugby tournament.  They played five games and finished first.  Joe was the captain of the team which beat Milford Rugby Club in the final - a team that were unbeaten.  Well done to Joe and all his team mates.  One to watch in the future if you are a Saints fan!

Charlotte in year one came to see me today and I commented on her beautiful new haircut, however she then went on to tell me that she had actually asked her mum if she could have her hair cut because she wanted to give it to 'The Little Princess Trust'.  This Trust is a charity that provides children with wigs because they have lost their own hair because of Cancer treatment.  Each wig that is donated to a child costs the charity £350.  Charlotte has had her hair cut and has also been raising money - so far £368!  What a fantastic achievement.

On 15th May, Charlotte went to the hairdressers and had a massive 9 inches cut from her hair.

What a selfless, humbling and generous thing to do for children who are suffering.  I am so proud of you Charlotte

Day One of SATs , by Mrs Kellett

Date: 11th May 2015 @ 10:38pm

Today our Y6 children came in early to have breakfast with us.  The choice was wide and varied.  Crumpets, toast, croissants to name a few.  Thanks to Mrs Platt for her 'extra' shopping at the weekend.  It was a lovely atmosphere.  The children were relaxed and well fuelled to begin their tests.

It was the  reading test today - all went well!  All the children worked extremely hard and did their very best!  I am so proud of each and every one of them!

SPAG tomorrow! See you bright and early for breakfast

Good Luck to our Y6 Pupils , by Mrs Kellett

Date: 10th May 2015 @ 4:30pm

Tomorrow is the beginning of 'SATs' Week in school.  Our Y6 children and staff have been working extremely hard in preparation. However, we are concerned that these tests do not always assess all of what it is that make each of you special and unique. The people who create these tests and score them do not know each of you – the way your teachers do, the way I hope to, and certainly not the way your families do.

They do not know that you can play a musical instrument, love rugby or that you can dance or paint a picture. They do not know that your friends count on you to be there for them or that your laughter can brighten the dreariest day.

They do not know that sometimes you take care of your Mum, Dad, little brother or sister after school.

They do not know that you can be trustworthy, kind or thoughtful, and that you try, every day, to be your very best… the scores you get will tell you something, but they will not tell you everything.

So enjoy your results and be very proud of these but remember there are many ways of being smart.”

Whatever 'level' you achieve next week, as long as you can honestly say to me, your teachers and your families, that you tried your best, what more can we ask!

Good luck -Y6

Maths Mastery , by Mrs Kellett

Date: 10th May 2015 @ 4:14pm

Last Thursday and Friday, Mrs Sharkey and I travelled to London to a conference all about Maths.  We had to apply to be part of Maths Mastery and we were successful.  This is a new initiative in St Helens with only 7 other schools taking part.  I am very excited and I know it is going to improve how we teach Mathematics in school.

Election Day for Queen's Park children , by Mrs Kellett

Date: 6th May 2015 @ 10:40pm

It was amazing today to hear the children outside my office discussing the different political parties and who they were voting for. There was a real buzz around the school. The children were talking positively about the General Election which was our intention.

British Values , by Mrs Kellett

Date: 5th May 2015 @ 3:15pm

Today, in our worship, we looked at what it means to be British.  We talked about the 5 British Values

1. Democracy

2. Rule of Law

3. Individual Liberty

4. Mutual Respect

5. Tolerance of those with different faiths and religions

The children will be looking at these all week especially Democracy linked to the General Election.

Please ask your child/children what they have been learning and keep checking the blog

General Election @Oueen's Park C.E/URC Primary School , by Mrs Kellett

Date: 4th May 2015 @ 10:44pm

The General Election is nearly here and we thought it would be an ideal opportunity to focus on the election and British Values all week in school.  We are going to be looking Democracy and what that means, the make-up of our Government and what it means to vote.  We will be having our own 'mock' vote in our very own Polling Station on Wednesday so the children get a real flavour of elections and what it means for our country.
