The children had a wonderful time learning all about Germany. They located it in Europe and found other key countries, we had a discussion about Brexit and if we still classed ourselves as being in Europe. We learned some key German phrases and participated in bundesliga with Mr Ward in the afternoon.

A super day to widen our horizons.

Year 5's surprise visitor, by Miss Stubbs

Date: 7th Jul 2016 @ 8:30am

Last week, year 5 had a surprise visitor, who burst in during class worship. He informed the children that he was hiding from the constables and needed a place to hide for the day.

He introduced himself as a highway man and told the children stories about his life and gave them information about the reality of life as a highway man.

The children wrote a ballad, adapted the original newspaper stories so they told the truth and created new wanted posters to stick up around the town.

This really helped the children visualise what a highway man was like, which linked to the highway man poem that year 5 are studying in class.

Poetry with Paul Delaney, by Mrs Atherton

Date: 20th May 2016 @ 10:57am

Queen's Park School were lucky enough to have Paul Delaney in school today. First of all, he held a whole school assembly to entertain the children with his poems, then, he spent the day working with Year 5.

The Year 5 children really enjoyed learning about Paul and listening to his humorous poems. Each child then created their own poem based on Paul Delaney's poem: 'There is nothing finer than...'

After writing and editing their poems, the children were given the opportunity to perfom their poem to the rest of the class.

Once all the children had completed, edited and performed their poems they were then judged by the adults. The winner will attend the St. Helens Primary Schools' Poetry Festival on Monday 4th July.

In Q5, the outright winner was Cymon Ellison (well done Cymon), he had used interesting word choices and had a great rhythm throughout his poem.

The runner up was Anu Abe, her perfomance of the poem with actions was really effective (great work Anu).

Our reserve was Harrison Latta, he had some really imaginative ideas in his poem (good ideas Harrison).

The whole of Year 5 really enjoyed Paul's visit and will be uploading their poems to his website:

www.pdelaney.co.uk

to see if they can win one of his signed books.

Thanks Paul. laugh

Primary Enterprise Challenge , by Mrs Kellett

Date: 14th Feb 2016 @ 10:05pm

On Friday, while most of you had a lie in, I took 10 of our year five children to St Helens Chamber to the Primary Enterprise Challenge. The children took part in a competition based on a game. The game was very much like Monopoly but has a 'business' twist. The children had to purchase assets, deliver goods, work out transport and insurance cost as well as buying and selling. There was an awful lot to think about. I was so impressed with both of our teams. Their behaviour was impeccable and I was extremely proud. Then they announced the winners!!  Our team from Q5 came 3rd out of 9 schools. They did brilliantly. Well done.
