Our German Friends at Cowley, by Mrs Taylor
Date: 22nd May 2017 @ 4:45pm
What a fabulous day some of our Y6 German club have just had! Cowley were wonderful hosts as usual to us and some students from Bad Pyrmont who have come to visit England for a few days. We were welcomed by Mr Cormack before being taken on a guided tour by a very eloquent Y8 pupil called Jack. We were struck by the fantastic dress designs put together by Cowley students in Textiles and it made our pupils excited for when they can do this! Mr Watkins led a fabulous samba session where the German and English students performed musical instruments together. We then headed to the sixth form block for a fascinating session from Mr Jones on 3D printing. We designed our own key rings. The day continued with a lovely lunch (thank you Cowley) and a PE lesson. An all round great experience!
Francovision, by Mrs Taylor
Date: 12th May 2017 @ 5:39pm
After completing SATs I felt Q6 deserved a French treat lesson. So with it being Eurovision weekend we did our own version with a French twist. Pairs of children used a bilingual dictionary to look up a country's name that they wanted to be the judges for. We listened to current French pop as well as classics by Maurice Chevalier and Edith Piaf then rated with numbers upto 'douze points'. The children annotated a copy of the lyrics with their translations and evaluations. The winning song was this year's French Eurovision entry 'Requiem' by Alma.
A very French start to the day!, by Mrs Taylor
Date: 26th Apr 2017 @ 10:46am
Q5 started the day with a class assembly on the French celebration of L a Fete du Muguet when best wishes are sent to others . We discussed how the scent of the lily of the valley (le Muguet) can stay with you just as we hope our best wishes to those facing stressful times in May stay with them. We brainstormed words for the wishes we would like to send to Y6 in doing their SATs tests and looked up these words in French in our 4 dictionary corners. We also sang a song about the children of the world which taught us how to say 'hello' in several different languages. This led on nicely to the exciting news that we have heard back from our penpals in Velles, France! The children started to reply and will complete their letters next week.
Trust and Betrayal, by Mrs Taylor
Date: 30th Mar 2017 @ 6:17pm
Today in Q4 we brainstormed questions that we would like to ask Judas and Peter regarding their roles in the Easter story. In our RE books we listed our questions before a hot seating session where various children acted in the roles of Judas and Peter. The children impressed me with their sensitivity and awareness when discussing trust, betrayal and forgiveness.

Conjugation 'avoir', by Mrs Taylor
Date: 22nd Mar 2017 @ 6:32pm
Great work in French in Y5 today! We learned how to conjugate the verb 'avoir' which means 'to have ', looked up magical nouns in our dictionaries and then put them together to make sentences on a wizard's cloak. Fantastique!
Love poetry inspired by Romeo and Juliet, by Mrs Taylor
Date: 16th Mar 2017 @ 6:54pm
As part of a fabulous carousel of Shakespeare activities Y3 and 4 decorated biscuits with a Shakespearean theme (led by Miss Gauld)before reading a love poem in French. I have to say I was very impressed with the translation strategies on show. The children were then equipped with a bilingual dictionary so that they could adapt the poem in their own way. If Romeo had seen the results he might have been tempted to send one to Juliet...
