Skype call to Australia. , by Mrs Atherton
Date: 14th Jan 2016 @ 4:06pm
Mrs Taylor organised a special event for Year 5 as part of their Arts Fortnight focus on Australia, she arranged for a teacher in Australia to receive a Skype call from us. After a couple of technical hiccups and issues with their 11 hour time difference, the connection was finally established, then the children were able to ask questions about Australia and the Stolen Generation. Mr Jackson was a very informative and entertaining visitor to our class. The children loved it, as did the staff.
The Stolen Generation is a topic that has amazed and shocked the classes, ask them at home to tell you about this part of Australian History.
I would like to personally thank Mrs Taylor for her enthusiasm setting this event up and Miss Hughes for organising the Skype account (teamwork is a wonderful thing).

Hi everyone!
Just to introduce myself, I thought I would post my very first blog!

We have been learning all about India in Year 3. We have experienced Indian Bollywood dancing, created some beautiful pieces of Indian art work and have even written our own songs and tasted lots of delicious Indian food.
Don't forget - there is a meet and greet on Friday 15th January from 9:00 - 9:30 for all parents/families in my class. Please come and say hello, I really look forward to meeting you all :)

Elf on the shelf, by Mr Everett
Date: 9th Dec 2015 @ 5:13pm
Just to let you know what's going on in Q4 with that pesky little elf. Our children have made up names for our elf and made acrostic poems out of them. We had 'Twinkletoes', 'Starfire', 'Stardust', JingleJewels' to name but a few. Ask your child what an acrostic poem is? Hopefully they'll be able to tell you all about them. Later this week our 'Big Write' is going to be a story about them going back with the elf to see all the weird and wonderful things in Santa's workshop. I'll be looking for some great describing words and time connectives to go in your paragraphs. Have a chat with your child about what they could describe. Don't forget to include all the amazing sights, sounds and smells that you may experience if you went to his workshop. Let's just hope Santa's not had his bowl of sprouts!

On Tuesday we celebrated European Languages day, our theme this year was Italy so the children and teachers dressed in the colours of the Italian flag.
Our day included learning Italian phrases, learning Italian numbers and carrying out research about Italy.
To conclude, we would like to thank Mrs Taylor and all our Italian speaking visitors for sharing their knowledge and answering our questions about the country, language and their experiences. It was a very valuable experience and we gained a lot from it.
