Suspicious delivery in Q6, by Miss Hughes

Date: 28th Sep 2016 @ 8:33pm

We came in from break time and brown envelopes were left all over our classroom. They had 'confidential' and 'urgent' stamped all over them... but we couldn't resist! We just HAD to open them and see what was inside.

It was a selection of documents about UFOs... newspaper articles, eyewitness statements, letters from the FBI. We soon realised that all of these items were also, types of recounts! We discussed the several features we could find in each recount and we enjoyed reading the information each document had to offer.

More to come on this... as I am suspecting some excellent recount writing will follow.

What do you believe?? THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE!!

The CURRENT Year 6 children are bright SPARKS , by Miss Hughes

Date: 28th Sep 2016 @ 8:18pm

I told Q6 how electricity is measured and they were like WATT! But when they understood I was ex-STATIC!

Maybe you have already gathered that Q6 have been learning all about Electricity in their Science lessons!

We carried out an investigation to associate the brightness of a bulb with the number and voltage of cells used in the circuit. They then compared and gave reasons for variations in how components function such as the brightness of bulbs.Q6 can recognise symbols when representing a simple circuit in a diagram... AND they can tell younger children exactly how dangerous electicity can be. A very busy couple of weeks in Science!

Then after a really long day full of science fun - I drove home in my VOLTS-wagon... and that's me all out of electricity puns.

They have been truly fab, sensible and great scientists. Well done Q6 :)

Sprechen Sie Deutsch? , by Mrs Taylor

Date: 27th Sep 2016 @ 9:42pm

We have had another successful celebration of the European Day of Languages. The day started with an assembly in which children role played greetings in French, Italian, Mandarin and German before a tongue twister challenge! Aanu, Bertie and Kara picked Mrs Connor, Miss Moss and Mr Warner to join them in attempting to say English, French and German tongue twisters as quickly as possible. Miss Emma led workshops in German dance which the children loved. At lunchtime we sampled a German menu in the dinner hall (a sausage recipe prepared specially by our cook). Q6 had a lovely experience when they took part in a Skype with a German school at Cowley. Cowley have sent an email to us praising our pupils saying they were a credit to our school. Mrs Taylor also led German language lessons throughout the day.

Strictly Come Year Six!!!πŸ’ƒπŸΌπŸŽΌπŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ, by Miss Ellis

Date: 27th Sep 2016 @ 1:53pm

Class P6 had a fantastic time this morning participating in a German themed dance class with Miss Emma as part of our European Language Day. πŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ

We learnt some steps from the waltz and parts of a traditional German 'thigh-slapping' dance. All of the children were very enthusiastic and loved the experience. I was really impressed with their co-ordination and rhythm. It wouldn't surprise me if some children ended up taking ballroom dance lessonsπŸ’ƒπŸΌ

Welcome assembly, by Miss Ellis

Date: 22nd Sep 2016 @ 1:08pm

Year six presented a superb assembly this week, with singing, acting, poetry and bible readings all on display. The assembly was to welcome the new children into reception and share our school values with them.

Afterwards we spent some time getting to know our buddies and giving them cards which were handmade by year six.

We are looking forward to more events with year six and reception through the year.

Another busy week..., by Miss Hughes

Date: 16th Sep 2016 @ 4:47pm

My poor class haven't stopped this week! We have managed to cram in - a football lesson, a dance lesson, a squash lesson, an extended writing session,  two science lessons, a french lesson, several Writing, Reading and Maths lessons... and a few tests have been thrown in as well! On top of all this, Year 6 have also been practising their assembly, which will be on Monday at 9:15 (all Y6 parents welcome! We would love to see you there).

What I have learnt about my class over the past couple of weeks is that they are always happy, do not stop smiling and are always keen to work. Let's hope we can keep this up all year! You are fabulous!

Have a great weekend x

Would you save Wilbur the pig? , by Miss Stubbs

Date: 14th Sep 2016 @ 10:09am

P5 have been reading Charlotte's Web as part of their English topic. Yesterday the children had to persuade Gabriella and Grace to either save Wilbur the pig or kill him, depending on which side they were stood on in conscience alley.

They children generated excellent arguments for and against. We even had comments about bacon, which tempted Grace.

Take a look at our conscience alley.

Welcome to Q6!, by Miss Hughes

Date: 9th Sep 2016 @ 5:28pm

I'd like to say a huge, happy welcome to my lovely new class and their families.

Well, what a week we've had! It's been so busy - does not feel like we've had 6 weeks off!

We have been preparing for our 'School Values' assembly which is in a couple of weeks time. We feel it is important to share our school values to remind everyone what makes us so special and unique at Queen's Park. Our values underpin the ethos of our school and we feel we have a responsibility to share them with the Reception children as they embark on their Queen's Park journey. We are also excited to introduce ourselves to our buddies, who we will be taking under our wing, being there for them and helping them to grow!

In English, we have been looking at The Lady of Shalott by Alfred Lord Tennyson. We have done a great job analysing it and we have dealt with some very tricky vocabulary! In Maths we have been working on our Place Value up to millions... we will soon be ready to work with numbers up to a billion - and use our Maths Mastery approach to challenge ourselves to some problem solving and reasoning activities.

We enjoyed reading Lamb to the Slaughter by Roald Dahl in Guided Reading - it is Roald Dahl day coming up and we wanted to celebrate the incredible stories he has written, including those short stories which were aimed at adults. We have been able to sequence the story, as well as discuss Roald Dahl's use of language and the impact it has on us as a reader. We actually felt really sorry for Mary Maloney - we laughed along with her at the very end of the story!

Busy busy busy... but loads of fun!

Bring on the rest of the year! It's going to be a GREAT one :)

Playing cards?, by Miss Stubbs

Date: 8th Sep 2016 @ 8:10pm

Of course we are not just playing cards!

Yesterday, P5's place value knowledge was challenged.

The children were given a certain number of cards to use in order to create the largest or the smallest possible number.

You can see some happy faces when the children beat their partner.

Our own sculptures in the style of Antony Gormley, by Miss Stubbs

Date: 8th Sep 2016 @ 8:00pm

P5 have been learning about Antony Gormley and his sculptures over the last two days. Today, we focused on creating our own sculptures in the style of The Field for the British Isles.

Did you know that the people of St.Helens were part of this artwork?

Ask your children to tell you more about it.

The children created some super sculptures, have a look at our talent.

Summer reading challenge , by Mrs Platt

Date: 20th Jul 2016 @ 3:21pm

We had a visit from Mary, who works for St Helens Library Service during today's assembly. Mary talked to the children about this year's summer reading challenge. This year's challenge is based around Roald Dahl and is called 'The big friendly read'.

Please encourage your child to take part in the event. There are reward incentives in place for children who particpate, which include an award ceremony with the mayor and mayoress of St Helens. In addition to this, school will be holding a prize draw for children who complete the challenege - the prize will be a book voucher!

Happy reading!

Go for Goal βš½οΈβš½οΈβš½οΈβš½οΈπŸ˜ƒ, by Miss Ellis

Date: 20th Jul 2016 @ 9:06am

On Monday and Tuesday, year six performed their end of year production, 'Go for goal'. The children were tremendously good with fantastic singing, dancing and acting. We were all so very proud of them, especially as they've had such a short amount of time to rehearse and learn their parts. Not a single word, step or action was out of place and you could tell by the children's faces how much they enjoyed doing it. What a fantastic way to end their final week at Queen's Park. Well done year six πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ†

Farewell to our new friends, by Mrs Platt

Date: 14th Jul 2016 @ 9:31pm

Today we said goodbye to our visitors and new friends- Peter and Nana.

We have enjoyed a wonderful week learning from each other!

The staff and children of Queen's Park presented Peter and Nana with gifts to remind them of their visit to Queen's Park. During the assembly, Peter talked to the children about life in Chongqing and how it compared to life in England.

We wish them a safe journey home and look forward to hearing from them soon.

Chinese Calligraphy, by Mrs Taylor

Date: 14th Jul 2016 @ 2:07pm

Today Peter and Nana took P4 in their new Y5 class for a fascinating session on how the characters in Chinese calligraphy developed. The children and staff alike really enjoyed working out what each 'glyph' represents. We were then challenged to communicate using our own symbols which we wrote on bamboo. Another brilliant lesson from our Chinese friends!

Counting in Mandarin, by Mrs Taylor

Date: 13th Jul 2016 @ 9:34pm

Today Q4 who are having their transition week in year 5 were taught by our visiting teachers, Peter and Nana. It was fun learning how to count to ten in Mandarin using actions.

A book gift for Chongqing, by Mrs Taylor

Date: 13th Jul 2016 @ 9:27pm

We gave Peter and Nana from Qinglong Lu Primary in Chongqing some English books to show the children in their school. Y5 children wrote a message at the front of the books so that they will think of us whenever they read them.
