World Faith Day, by Miss Ellis

Date: 16th Jan 2017 @ 4:28pm

We had a really interesting lesson today to commemorate World Faith Day. The children have been investigating Early Islamic art and have begun to create their own design following the traditional geometric pattern making. It also gave us chance to recap how to use a compass!! Well done year six. What wonderful open minds you have๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

P6 'Art Week' events, by Miss Ellis

Date: 13th Jan 2017 @ 3:55pm

Well, what can I say! We have had an amazing week this week with our extra lessons focusing upon musical theatre as part of our whole school arts week. We have sung, created drama, danced, made props, played instruments and performed in front of the whole school under the guidance of Natalie, Haley and Alan from the Liverpool Empire teaching team. P6 have loved every second and the week has uncovered some future stars of the stage. I've been really proud of my class with their excellent participation attitude and we've all enjoyed watching the work of our other classes too. ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿป๐ŸŽค๐ŸŽผ๐ŸŽฌ๐ŸŽญ๐ŸŽบ๐ŸŽป

Twitter-tastic!, by Miss Hughes

Date: 7th Jan 2017 @ 11:35pm

Please follow @QueensCoEURC on Twitter for an instant feed of all the wonderful things that go on at Queen's Park each day. Our staff have their own class pages and regularly tweet about what's happening in their classrooms. For Q6's twitter feed follow @MissHughesQP.

Something very special happened over Christmas... a million people have seen Charlotte Nicholson's writing - her take on the Mrs Claus Christmas advert. We received several retweets and Marks & Spencer's themselves commented that her work was "simply spellbinding" ... and we couldn't agree more. Charlotte's work is being appreciated by people all over the world! Well done Charlotte.

This week, we've even had a retweet from David Walliams - who seems very pleased that Keira Hockenhull is enjoying his latest book The Midnight Gang.

What should the king do? Conscience Alley in Q6!, by Miss Hughes

Date: 7th Jan 2017 @ 11:20pm

We LOVE reading in Q6, we love books and we especially love learning through a quality text. We are currently reading The Princess' Blankets by Carol Ann Duffy: a beautiful story with equally beautiful paintings made into illustrations. We are up to the part where the stony-eyed stranger has arrived at the king's door. He wants to help the princess become warm again. Should the king let him in? Or should the king turn him away?

We thought of arguments for or against and made our very own king walk down conscience alley and make a decision! We are now working towards some persuasive writing aimed at the king. Some fantastic ideas and brilliant arguments... we have definitely realised there are two sides to every story!

Art exhibition - Year 6, by Miss Hughes

Date: 7th Jan 2017 @ 11:01pm

Year 6 had a fantastic time on Friday afternoon, showcasing their wonderful artwork.

We are celebrating west end musicals as part of our arts fortnight. Year 6 have been looking at Matilda the Musical. We listened to the song "When I Grow Up" and it got us thinking about our aspirations... and what we want to be when we're older.  We used our sewing skills to create cushions with a design representing our aspirations.

The visitors at our art exhibition were able to guess straight away what our cushions represented! Which tells me that Year 6 did as smashing job in their textile designs.

Well done year 6!

Who has the King?, by Mrs Taylor

Date: 6th Jan 2017 @ 3:09pm

Y3 celebrated Epiphany in French style as we played the traditional family game of 'find la feve.'  The youngest child went under the table and chose family members (in French of course) to pick a coloured slice of 'la galette'. Whoever had the charm of a king hidden in the slice got to wear 'la couronne'.

Art exhibition in the school hall, by Mrs Platt

Date: 6th Jan 2017 @ 1:49pm

Look at the amazing art work our classes have produced as part of our 'Arts Fortnight' celebrations.

Les Rois et les Reines, by Mrs Taylor

Date: 6th Jan 2017 @ 10:00am

Y1 had fun learning about how Epiphany is celebrated in France. We learned about how French families play a game where the youngest family member goes under the table and chooses who can take a slice of 'la galette'. Whoever finds a charm hidden in their slice becomes 'le Roi' or 'la Reine' and wears a crown. We practised learning our colour words by wearing different coloured crowns and the children on the carpet had to guess which coloured crown was missing from our line up of kings and queens. When they worked out who it was the hidden child popped up and said 'bonjour!'

What a great start to Arts Week!, by Miss Hughes

Date: 4th Jan 2017 @ 2:24pm

Happy new year to you all! Year 6 are ready for an exciting, challenging and enjoyable 2017!

We have started off our first day back with a full day of speaking & listening, a ukulele lesson and design and technology. Matilda the musical has been our inspiration behind our textiles project. We can't wait to showcase our work at the art exhibition on Friday. We have enjoyed watching and listening to Matilda the musical whilst working today: especially the song "When I Grow Up".  This has inspired our textiles designs.

Have a look at us playing the ukulele this morning. We managed to play Black Eyed Peas!

First morning back in 2017 - fantastic, by Miss Ellis

Date: 4th Jan 2017 @ 11:48am

As if it wasn't exciting enough starting a new year, this morning P6 have been debating social issues such as 'Should we respect all living things?' and 'Should we tell people about their bad habits?'

As I type, the children are strumming their ukuleles in a music session with the St Helens Music Service. What a great first morning back! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐ŸŽผ๐ŸŽธ

Date: 11th Dec 2016 @ 8:30pm

Members of the school and ethos council worked alongside Reverend Gwynfor to lead this morning's special service at Ormskirk Street United Reform Church.

The children helped to light the Advent wreath, read aloud and sang beautifully.

The congregation commented on the children's smart presentation, confident reading and as always their wonderful behaviour.

Well done children - you are a credit to your families and Queen's Park School.

QUEEN'S PARK CHOIR ON TOUR!, by Mrs Roberts

Date: 8th Dec 2016 @ 5:40pm

Our school choir has done our school proud yet again.

We were invited to open The United Reformed Church Christmas Tree Festival.

The congregation and spectators happily joined us in song and they even requested an encore. We were also very lucky to be able to view of all the local Christmas Trees. Our children had worked hard to make decorations and produce a very splendid, Queen's Park tree of our very own.

AMAZING TIME HAD BY ALL. :-)
