Sports galore!, by Mr Gill
Date: 26th Nov 2016 @ 11:12am
This week has been a very busy week here at Queen's Park. There have been lots of different sporting activities going on throughout the week.
On Thursday, Mr Ward organised a inter school benchball tournament which saw 3 of our network schools come to Queen's Park to battle it out to become Year 3 benchball champions. After some closely contested games, Queen's Park eventually came out on top and won the tournament! It must have been all that practising in PE! The games were played in great spirit and it was great to see so many children with smiles on their faces!
A special mention goes to our Year 6 sports leaders who refereed the games and ensured the tournament ran smoothly. Well done and thank you!
On Friday, the Year 3/4 football tournament came to an end with a nail biting penalty shootout in the final after a 2-2 draw in normal time. The final was contested by Real Madrid and Barcelona and after 9 saved penalties, Barcelona came out on top after slotting the winning penalty in the bottom left hand corner of the goal. Congratulations Barcelona. Look out for the next lunchtime tournament which will involve our Year 4 and 5 children.
Friday also saw our Year 5 children take part in an intra-school handball tournament! Well done to all involved.
We are already looking forward to another week full of sport here at Queen's Park. Check out our pictures to see what's been going on!
Algebra fun! , by Miss Hughes
Date: 25th Nov 2016 @ 3:55pm
We love using practical equipment in Q6! We used cubes to make sequences and predict what the nth term is. We are getting more and more confident with linear equations and understanding formulae. Not only are Q6 algebra experts , they are also great at working together. Well done all!

Y6 Governors & PTFA members , by Miss Hughes
Date: 25th Nov 2016 @ 3:45pm
In Year 6, we are so lucky to have Karen Devine & Cath Cairns as our governors. Not only do these lovely ladies work so hard to help make Queen's Park the best it can possibly be; they also come to visit us and help us with our learning. Today, Year 6 children had to tell Cath & Karen all about how to find the nth term in our algebra lesson! They spent all morning sorting out the PTFA Christmas fair then came to spend the rest of the time with Y6.
Cath claimed she is not as clever at maths as she thought. Owen Lewis helped her solve the equations! Karen as really impressed with the speed of Katie Hamilton's reasoning. Well done you two!
Thanks for coming to visit us, for helping us with our maths and hearing us read. See you next week!

Thanks to Mr Ward for both organising the tournament and getting the children ready to compete.
We are very proud of you all.
A very international afternoon, by Mrs Taylor
Date: 18th Nov 2016 @ 3:46pm
Here at Queen's Park we have just had a thoroughly international afternoon! Y6 enjoyed French Yoga with Steph from Primary Languages Network and P3 have been watching a video made by our Tasmanian partner school, St Brigid's. In the video we were able to see what their classrooms and playgrounds are like, as well as enjoying the drama that they acted out. Then we looked at our project with our Italian and French partner schools ( La Strada della Magia/ La Rue de la Magie/ The Magic Road) in which we are on a magical journey with our European friends. The children prepared to become magicians by making hats and wands. I heard some great language from them as they played at casting spells.

French Yoga, by Mrs Taylor
Date: 11th Nov 2016 @ 3:53pm
Well, I must say I'm feeling very calm and relaxed! Not just because it's Friday , but because I have been doing Yoga all afternoon with Y3. Steph from Primary Languages Network delivered lovely sessions where we were given our Yoga instructions in French. This gave us the chance to revise words for body parts and animals as well as learning lots of new vocabulary. It was a truly special way to round off the week and I hope your children are all feeling as good as I do.
Haven't got a clue ... to experts! (In just one week) , by Miss Hughes
Date: 10th Nov 2016 @ 5:49pm
We have been learning how to use the active and passive voice in English and we have been using Miss Hughes' favourite game to help us... cluedo! We can now confidently create sentences using both active and passive and we really enjoyed writing descriptive sentences about those sneaky cluedo characters. They've been getting up to no good in Dr Black's house.
Q6 are very "bright" - Science , by Miss Hughes
Date: 10th Nov 2016 @ 5:43pm
We have spent the past couple of weeks studying light in our science lessons. We have looked at how light travels in straight lines, how light travels into our eyes to allows us to see and how light is reflected. Look at us modelling how light is reflected in the pictures below. We had loads of fun using a periscope and looking around corners and over objects! We had a go at making our own periscopes too. Cereal boxes and mirrors worked a treat!

Determined to sort our determiners, by Mrs Taylor
Date: 10th Nov 2016 @ 4:48pm
In French this week Y4 have delighted me with their ability to sort nouns according to masculine, feminine or plural by looking at the determiner. The children did this so well they were then challenged to put the words into alphabetical order. Having recorded their new vocabulary in their books they used bilingual dictionaries to find other classroom object vocabulary to add to the list.
Year 6 Apprentice....You're hired!!, by Miss Ellis
Date: 10th Nov 2016 @ 1:14pm
Yesterday ten pupils from our year six classes took part in the grand final of the St Helens Chamber of Commerce Enterprise competition. Since mid September, all the children have been designing a theme park based on the Gullivers World complex and creating press releases, posters, powerpoints, leaflets, budgets and environmental reports in preparation for the final. We sent two teams to the final after the judges visited us before half term and they both did incredibly well. Sadly we didn't win overall but both teams were highly commended by the judges and more importantly the children themselves were very proud of the work they had presented. Miss Hughes, Mrs Baskett, Mrs Harrison and myself were impressed by the all of the children's efforts and would like to thank them for all their hard work.π΄π π
P5 Penpals, by Mrs Taylor
Date: 9th Nov 2016 @ 10:54am
Today P5 were matched up with their new French penpals. They did a brilliant job of introducing themselves and giving personal information in French. We also saw some lovely designs for the front covers showing the relationship between our two nations. We hope our new friends in l'Ecole de Velles enjoy reading them.
